| Food For The Poor
Food for the Poor, begun only 37 years ago, is now among the largest Christian ecumenical charities in America which provides resources to existing ministries and missionaries in third world countries, primarily in the Caribbean and Central America. One man began this ministry in 1983 with the donation of one bag of rice which he began giving out to the homeless on the streets of Haiti along with a prayer centered in Jesus, the Bread of life. Last year, by God’s grace, we provided over one BILLION dollars of food and resources to the destitute in 17 countries we serve. Our method of distribution is exclusively through Christian Missionaries. We do not work with or through any governmental agencies but only through missionaries. A missionary, of course, may be a farmer, teacher or anyone who is led to serve others in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. That is basically the only way to guarantee that resources actually get to the people The mission statement of Food for the Poor is stated powerfully in Matthew 25:35-45. Everything we do is always in the context of proclaiming Jesus Christ, through word and action. Our measure of success is bringing the love of Jesus, with action and proclamation, one child and one person at a time, especially to those our Lord called “the least of these…” Rev. Walter Volz will be our guest preacher on August 4 as he shares information regarding the ministry of Food For The Poor. You will be given the opportunity to support this important ministry. Please plan to attend.

Human Care Committee
The Human Care Committee is truly grateful for all of the donations to the Little Free Pantry in recent weeks. We are seeking individuals willing to check and stock the pantry on a regular basis. We would like to have the pantry checked three times a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The Lang and Henke families have agreed to cover Wednesday. Might you be able to partner with another family to cover either Monday or Friday each week. Visit with Korri Lang or Micheal Henke to discover how you can help. We also plan to include prayer cards and SOTV brochures in the pantry. We are making a difference in our community.
The focus for the third quarter of this year is the Benevolence Fund for Shepherd of the Valley that would enable Pastor Wolfgram and other leaders to assist persons in need in our community when they request help. The Church Council is considering a policy to help the benevolence fund operate smoothly. Thank you for your ongoing support and prayers as we care for people in their time of need.

The calendar is flipped to August, and you know that the first day of school is not far away! You are invited to help us celebrate the opening service of the 25th academic school year on Wednesday, August 21 at 9:00. Our theme for this year is our 25th year is “Rooted and Grounded in Christ,” based on Ephesians 3:16-19: 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. It is our mission to root and establish our students in the love and knowledge of Christ. We look back on how the Lord has brought us through the past 25 years, knowing that it is through His grace, the source that grounds and roots us, that Martin Luther has been able to withstand challenges we have faced. We continue to look to Christ as our source of strength in the years to come. We have new staff members to welcome! Kaila Wentz, an MLS alum, will be teaching in the all-day 5-day preschool classroom, with her aide, Kim Mastel. Kaila has always been a teacher at heart and has had experience teaching in the Montessori classroom. Kim has helped out and subbed in the preschool class this past year at MLS and has been a great assistant. Also new to our staff is Kim Kranz who will be teaching part-time primarily in the 5th and 6th grade classroom, but will also assist with reading in the 4th grade. Kim is a trained tutor in the “Read Right” program and will be a wonderful addition to our staff. Celebration is also in order for our preschool program as we ranked 2nd in the Bismarck Tribune’s “Best of the Best” contest for preschools in the Bismarck/Mandan area! Coming up soon will be the annual Golf Scramble, September 19th. More information will be coming out very soon. Mark your calendars for the date, all you golfers out there! So soon we will be back in the classroom, refreshed and ready for another year. We treasure our partnership with our association churches and are amazed by what God has done through you. Then again, we shouldn’t be surprised, as we continue the passage in Ephesians 3: 20 Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, 21 to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Greetings Church Family!
The Vision Path committee has been looking at our next steps as a result of the Re:Vitality survey that the congregation recently completed. The area of the most concern for the congregation was our inactive congregation members. Inactive meaning not attending worship with the bigger meaning of members of the congregation not hearing God’s word of salvation through the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ Jesus or worshiping our Lord and Savior.
To address this greatest need, our congregation will take part in a program called “Shepherding Our Strays.” The purpose of the program is to help each of us in reaching out to others and sharing the Good News of Christ! I’m a pretty outgoing friendly person and have never meet a stranger but I’m a little timid when it comes to sharing the gospel though. Mostly because I’m not sure of what to say that won’t make me seem pushy, judgmental or a worse yet a “bible beater!” Maybe this is you too? If so, the program of Shepherding Our Strays will help us to overcome our timidity in sharing the His word and gift of salvation.
Before starting that program, it is highly recommended that we go through a short training called Everyone His Witness, abbreviated as E1HW. E1HW introduces some language and concepts that will make the Shepherding Our Strays training even more fruitful. The E1HW training is tentatively scheduled for September 21st from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. Its six hours of training with a break for lunch. Shepherding Our Strays training is tentatively scheduled for October 12th or November 2nd depending on when the materials will arrive.
In September, there will be announcements at the Sunday and Wednesday services to announce the final times and dates for each training and who should attend each training. The training is open to everyone and anyone who wants to be better at sharing their faith but there are certain people that will be highly encouraged to attend based on their positions on boards or committees within the church. This is an exciting time for us as a congregation, not only will we gain valuable training but ultimately our words and actions from the training will lead others to Christ! “Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents” Luke 15:10
